Montangne Noire

This mountain range is a natural transition to the south of France, take a drive down the winding, small roads and enjoy the shade under the green leafy roads or take a beautiful walk on one of the hiking trails.

Extra tips

Here are a couple of recommendations. There are many beautiful places to visit picturesque middle-aged villages in the Tarn.

  • The City of Albi, with a beautiful cathedral Cecile, Museum of Toulouse Lautrec. Ask at the Bureau du tourism for a map/advice for the many beautiful walks and trails.
  • The Gorges du Tarn: discover the breathtaking views.
  • Tee Bastides and fortified villages most famously in this category: Cordes-sur-Ciel, Castelnau-de-Montmiral, Monetstiere, Penne, Puycelsi, Brunique en Briatext to name but a few. These are our favourite.
  • Lisle-sur-Tarn: Discover Place Paul Saissac, the largest indoor arcade in the south east with a large Sunday market.
  • The meander of Ambivalent, 20 km ten north/east of Albi where the Tarn makes an unusual curve in the landscape.
  • Gaillac: one of the oldest vineyards in France (according to them). Nearby Andillac restored village.
  • Chateau du Cayla. One of the most romantic castle let it cast you under it spell.
  • Parc Naturel Régional du Haut-Languedoc, the mountain range Montagne Noire de crossover to the Midi en het departement Herault.

Cycling and mountain bike trails

The Tarn-et-Garonne: ideal for bikes ‘easy’ routes, ‘vélo routes’, mountain bike circuits, they are all beautiful. Bike ride het Canal des Deux Mers, descend along the in de rivier cliffs van de Aveyron, Climb in the hills of Lomagne of de Quercy.


Residence la Salamandre is situated in one of the best waking and trail routes in the south of France, the beatilful cliffs and gorges, the beautiful blue/green of the river Tarn so much to see.

Weekly markets

There is a myriad of local markets here in the Tarn, local farmers and people bring their wares everything from fruit, vegetables, meats, cured meats, local cheeses, clothes, shoes gardening equipment, plants, clothes, shoes, bread and wine and local petit producteurs sell there harvest. Please enjoy and support the local businesses.
